District Legal Aid Officers Oriented on Human Trafficking

An Awareness Raising on Trafficking in Persons and Protection of Victims’ rights for District Legal Aid Officers and Officers of National Legal Aid Services Organisation (NLASO) conducted on 6th June 2016.The training was jointly organised with NLASO at the Spectra Convention Centre, Dhaka in June 2016 under the MoU Signed with NLASO.

The half day awareness training was aimed at increasing understanding and awareness of District Legal Aid Officers about cases involving trafficking victims, their families, and traffickers, in accordance with the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012 and National Legal Aid Services Act 2000.

A total number of 26 district legal aid officers and NLASO officers who are equivalent to assistant judge, senior assistant judge as well as joint district and sessions’ judge from 21 different districts attended the event. 

The awareness program was coordinated by Shahanur Islam, Prosecution Manager, BC/TIP that was chaired by Mr. Abdullah Al Amin, Director, National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO). Mr. Mustafijur Rahman, Additional Secretary, Law and Justice Division under MoLJPA graced the event as chief guest and Mr. David Dobrowolski, Senior Director, Civil Society and Education, Winrock International attended as special guest.

With the aims to raise awareness about the crime of human trafficking as a serious crime and a violation of human rights, and to enhance the capability and skills of prosecutors to adequately detect trafficking cases and implement existing anti-trafficking legislation to end impunity for traffickers and securing justice for victims,

prosecutors training on trafficking in persons and protection of victims’ rights conducted in Sylhet.

The training were held at Hotel Rose View in Sylhet on 10-11 June 2016 respectively. A total number of 20 Public Prosecutor, Additional Public Prosecutor, Special Public Prosecutor and Assistant Public Prosecutors from different 4 Districts under the Sylhet division attended the training.

  

The training sessions were interactive with vigorous discussions, questions and answers, group work, presentations and demonstrations which increased the awareness of the crime of trafficking among non-specialist prosecutors and strengthened their capacity to recognize and understand the basic legal concepts, trial issues, and practical concerns that arise in TIP cases.

Prosecutors’ training help the participant to increase  their knowledge on human trafficking laws and prosecution technicalities.

Prosecutors Training on Trafficking in Persons and Protection of Victims’ Rights held in Rangpur with aim to strengthen the role played by prosecutors in ending impunity for traffickers and securing justice for victims.

It is designed to raise awareness of the crime of trafficking among non-specialist prosecutors to strengthen their capacity to recognize and understand basic legal concepts, trial issues and practical concerns that arise in TIP cases.

The Training was held at RDRS Class room, Rangpur on 20^th & 21^st May. A total number of 25 participants from Public Prosecutor, Additional Public Prosecutor, Special Public Prosecutor and Assistant Public Prosecutors from different 8 districts under the Rangpur division attended the training.

The training sessions’ were interactive with vigorous discussions, questions and answers, group study and work, group presentations as well as group demonstrations which increased their level of knowledge on human trafficking laws and prosecution technicalities.

With an aim to provide front line law enforcement officials with the necessary knowledge, attitude and skills to enable them to provide an effective first response to human trafficking cases, BC/TIP organized a three day Trafficking in Persons Training Course for First Responders' Police Officers on 14^th to 16^th March 2016. The training was held at the In-service Training Centre, CMP, Chittagong.

A total number of 26 participants from Sub-Inspector and Inspector level from different departments of police from 11 districts: Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Chandpur, Noakhali, Brahman Baria, Comilla, Feni, Laxmipur, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban under Chittagong division participated the training.

The training helps the first responder police officers to better understand human trafficking laws and investigation techniques. It also increases the awareness of the trafficking issues, roles and responsibilities of police investigators and promotes effective collaboration with prosecutors.

Prosecutors in Rajshahi Trained on Trafficking in Persons and Protection of Victims’ Rights. The training seeks to strengthen the role played by prosecutors in ending impunity for traffickers and securing justice for victims

.It is designed to raise awareness of the crime of trafficking among non-specialist prosecutors to strengthen their capacity to recognize and understand basic legal concepts, trial issues and practical concerns that arise in TIP cases.

The Training was held at Conference Room of Warisan Hotel, Rajshahi on 8^th & 9^th April 2016. A total number of 22 participants from Public Prosecutor, Additional Public Prosecutor, Special Public Prosecutor and Assistant Public Prosecutors from different 5 districts under the Rajshahi division attended the training.

The training sessions’ were interactive with vigorous discussions, questions and answers, group study and work, group presentations as well as group demonstrations which increased their level of knowledge on human trafficking laws and prosecution technicalities.
