Law Society of England and Wales Raises Concerns Over Threats to Bangladeshi Lawyer Shahanur Islam

The Law Society of England and Wales, a professional body representing approximately 200,000 solicitors, has expressed deep concerns regarding the ongoing threats and harassment faced by Bangladeshi lawyer Shahanur Islam. On 16 November , in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, the Law Society called for immediate action to safeguard Mr. Islam and uphold the rule of law.

Shahanur Islam serves as the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Institute of Human Rights and Justice Makers Bangladesh. Throughout his career, he has been an ardent defender of the rights of ethnic, religious, and LGBTI minorities, as well as opposition politicians. Regrettably, he has been a target of multiple threats, intimidation, physical assault, and arrest dating back to 2008.

Bangladeshi human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh has congratulated and wished the transgender woman Payal Khatun for being elected as a female member in Kanchanpur Union Parishad (UP) of Sadar Upazila of Kushtia district of Bangladesh.

 

According to the news published by Voice of America's Bengali section online on November 4, 2022, Payal Khatun, a transgender woman elected as a member of the Union Parishad in Kushtia district of Bangladesh and she is the first elected public representative of the third gender in Kushtia district.

গত ৪নভেম্বর ২০২২ তারিখে ভয়েস অব আমেরিকা এর বাংলা বিভাগের অনলাইন মাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত খবর অনুযায়ী জানা যায় যে, বাংলাদেশের কুষ্টিয়া জেলায় নির্বাচিত ইউপি সদস্য যৌন সংখ্যালঘু রূপান্তরকামী নারী পায়েল খাতুন কুষ্টিয়া জেলায় তৃতীয় লিঙ্গের প্রথম নির্বাচিত জন প্রতিনিধি।

Bangladeshi human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh has expressed its deep concern and anger over the attempt to expulsion of a sexual minority homosexual community teacher from the college on charges of homosexuality with students in Dhamrai, Dhaka.

At the same time, Justice Makers Bangladesh strongly demanded that the culprits involved in the incident should be bring before the book after quick and impartial investigation.

According to the news published in the online newspaper risingbd.com on November 2, 2022 AD, it is known that 30 students have written a complaint to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer against Aminul Islam, the senior lecturer of the geography department of Bhalum Ataur Rahman Khan Degree College in Dhamrai, Dhaka seeking remedy for homosexuality.

গত ০২ নভেম্বর ২০২২ খ্রীষ্টাব্দ তারিখে অনলাইন পত্রিকা রাইজিং বিডি ডট কম এ প্রকাশিত খবর আনুযায়ী জানা যায় ঢাকার ধামরাইয়ে ভালুম আতাউর রহমান খান ডিগ্রি কলেজের ভূগোল বিভাগের জ্যেষ্ঠ প্রভাষক আমিনুল ইসলামের বিরুদ্ধে সমকামীতার প্রতিকার চেয়ে উপজেলা নির্বাহী অফিসারের কাছে ৩০ শিক্ষার্থী লিখিত অভিযোগ করেছে।
