JusticeMakers Bangladesh deeply concerned over the killing of trans-woman in Rangpur.

Bangladeshi human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh has expressed deep concern and aggrieved over the killing of the sexual minority transgender community people in Rangpur, northern part of Bangladesh.

At the same time, JusticeMakers Bangladesh has demanded that to give exemplary punishment to the criminal involved in the brutal murder of the transgender woman after quick and impartial investigation.

According to the news published on the online newspaper KTV.com on October 11, 2022, it is known that on the morning of October 9, Pirganj police station recovered the dead body of a transgender woman lying in the Patal field of Laldighi after receiving the information of killing.

It is known that Nahid alias Joyeey Akter Nagini (20) is a resident of Panchil village of Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat. She lives in Pirganj as she is a transgender woman (third gender). At one stage of living her in Pirganj, she introduced with Sajal Chandra Sarkar, the helper of Laguna car, son of Dilip Chandra Sarkar of Rampura village in Pirganj. Gradually they are fall in love each other and Sajal got verbally married to Nagini in 2 years ago and they kept their marriage in secret.

About 3-4 months ago, when Sajal asked her to forget him, Nagini stabbed herself in the stomach and tried to commit suicide. On the afternoon of October 7, Nagini came to Pirganj bus stand and took Sajal with her. That night they sat on a potl land at Laldighi and talked about their future. One time, Sajal asked her to forget him and an argument ensued. Suddenly, Sajal strangled Nagini's throat with his waist belt and left the body after killing her.

The police arrested Sajal for his alleged involvement in the murder and recovered the belt and mobile phone used by deceased. Later, Sajal initially confessed to the murder and he was produced to Rangpur court on Monday.

Deceased Nagini’s father Hafizul Islam filed a murder case against the unknown accused with the concerned police station on Sunday night. He said, Nahid alias Nagini used to read girls' clothes from childhood. Later she left home and came to Pirganj.

Founder Secretary General of JusticeMakers Bangladesh and prominent lawyer and human rights activist Advocate Shahanur Islam has protested the killing of sexual minority transgender woman by her husband in Rangpur and has strongly demanded to submit charge sheet with the learned court after quick and proper investigation of the Nagin murder case .

At the same time, Advocate Shahanur Islam has called for exemplary punishment to be given to the person involved in the murder of trans woman Nagini through a speedy, impartial and transparent trial.

Advocate Shahnur Islam believes that the aforesaid killing is not an isolated incident in Bangladesh, rather it is only a small part of the ongoing discrimination, murder, assault and human rights violations against people of the LGBT community, including transgenders in all around the country.

Advocate Shahanur Islam also feels that although the Bangladesh government has taken some social rehabilitation initiatives by recognizing transgender as the third gender, but those are not sufficient and effective at all.

Moreover, Advocate Shahanur Islam thinks that LGBT community people including transgenders are constantly subjected to various human rights violations including discrimination from family to society and from society to state. But most of them remain invisible to the public due to social unacceptability and intolerance.
